A Change in South Kentucky RECC Account Numbers

Out with the old, and in with the new. Beginning February 1, the account numbers of South Kentucky RECC electric bills will be changing to make it more convenient for members.

How will it change?
Your account number is divided into two parts. If your account number was 1234501, by removing the last two digits, or the 01, the remaining number (12345) is your member number. The two digits at the end of your account number change with each electric account that you have with us (01, 02, 03, etc.). For example, the account number of your house may end in “01,” and the account number of your garage or barn may end in “02.” An extra digit is being added to your account number. Your current account number of 1234501 will now change to 12345001. Your member number will remain unchanged.

Why is this change being done?
The driving reason is a number of members have more than 99 electric accounts. With that many accounts, these members are required to have more than one member number. This makes maintaining members’ accounts more complicated for them, because they have to keep up with the many different numbers, as well as inefficient for South Kentucky RECC. Adding another digit to the account number will resolve this issue, allowing up to 999 accounts on the same member number.

What, if anything, do I need to do?
If you use your bank’s Web site or a third-party bill payment service to have your electric bill payments automatically sent to SKRECC, then it is very important that you get your SKRECC electric account number(s) updated on your bank’s Web site or third-party bill payment service as close to February 1 as possible. Otherwise the old account number(s) may not be recognized when the bank or third party sends the electronic payment to us on your behalf, causing your payment to be posted late or not at all, which can result in additional charges.

If you access your electric account at the South Kentucky RECC Web site, then you will have to use the new account number on or after February 1 in order to successfully log into your account online. You can also set up a username for yourself on our bill payment Web site at any time and use that to log in as an alternative to logging in with your account number. Once you have a username, you don’t have to remember your account number—keep in mind that you will need your account number to set up the username.

If you call our automated voice response system to make payments to your electric account on or after February 1, then you will have to use the new account number in order to successfully make a payment.

Will my payment be processed correctly if I mail my payment to you via U.S. mail?
Yes. We will have processes in place that will make sure the payment you mail to South Kentucky RECC will be posted to your account correctly even if your bill stub has the old account number format.

What if I have trouble using my old account number with one of your electronic or online services?
Try using the new account number format. For example, if your account number has been 1234501 in the past, then try using 12345001. If you continue having trouble, then call your local SKRECC office, and someone will be happy to assist you.

If you have any questions regarding the change, please feel free to contact one of our member service representatives at our local offices or by calling 800-264-5112.
