South Kentucky RECC recently took nine local high school juniors to Frankfort to participate in the 2026 Frankfort Youth Tour, joining nearly 90 students from 16 electric cooperatives across the state. The event focused on civic engagement, leadership and the future of energy in Kentucky.

Students heard from state leaders including Sen. Amanda Mays Bledsoe, Rep. Wade Williams and Sen. Jason Howell, who discussed energy policy, economic growth and the importance of reliable, affordable electricity. Secretary of State Michael Adams highlighted the impact of the Co-ops Vote initiative, noting increased voter participation in rural communities, while Lt. Gov. Jacqueline Coleman encouraged students to see themselves as future leaders.

Throughout the day, participants toured the Old State Capitol and Kentucky Historical Society and took part in interactive demonstrations. The event also marked the launch of the 2026 Co-ops Vote campaign, encouraging civic involvement ahead of upcoming elections.

The Frankfort Youth Tour continues a long-standing cooperative tradition of investing in young leaders and providing them with a firsthand look at government and public service.
