South Kentucky RECC (SKRECC) proudly participates in the Washington Youth Tour each year with other cooperatives across the nation. To date, we have sent 100+ students to Washington D.C. on this life changing adventure as representatives for SKRECC and the State of Kentucky. The goal of the program is to offer students an educational experience, outside of the classroom, that helps them become future leaders here and abroad.
Applications for the Rural Electric Youth Tour in Washington, D. C., are accepted by South Kentucky RECC through February 3, 2023. Competition for the all-expense-paid trip is open to high school juniors, between the ages of 16 and 18, whose parent(s) or guardian(s) receive electric service at their primary residence from South Kentucky RECC. Children or grandchildren of South Kentucky RECC employees, directors, and attorneys are not eligible.
Students must complete a typed essay of 350-500 words on the subject “In your opinion, what is the biggest challenge to the reliability of the electric grid in the future?” All essays and applications must be filled out and submitted on-line.
Winners will be taken to Washington, D.C., June 12th-17th, 2023, where they will tour national landmarks and learn more about how the United States government works.
